“SUMMIT” Mountaineering Weekend - (1972-2024)
Friday 25th – Sunday 27th October 2024.
This trip is for Scouts over 13 and Explorer Scouts (14-18). We are limited to 20 participants, Online Scout Manager will form a waiting list after these are filled (first come first serve). Your place is not confirmed until you sign up AND pay.
Spend a weekend hiking in the stunning mountains of Snowdonia.
We will be staying indoors at Yr Hafod Scouts activity centre which lies in the heart of Snowdonia (Grid ref SH644603) - http://www.yr-hafod.org.uk .
Transport will leave Southampton at 6.00pm on the Friday evening (Location TBC in Southampton - just confirming Minibus arrangements). We expect to be back in Southampton around 9pm on Sunday.
In 2023 this trip was so popular that we had to leave several people behind!
Please ensure your OSM details are up to date as this will act as your permission to camp form.
If you have any questions, email Sam Chapman at sam.chapman@southamptoncityscouts.org.uk
Kit List
The correct, well-fitting, kit is essential and without it, scouts will not be able to take part in the activities. This is a serious weekend where we will have serious fun if everyone has the right equipment!
Uniform is not required, neckerchief only to travel in.
Optionally:
The weather is very unpredictable – we've had snow some years and have been sunburnt other years! Be prepared for everything.
* Layering clothes while walking is best – a base-layer, t-shirt and a couple of thin jumpers (like the micro-fleeces from regatta/craghoppers etc) is better than a thick woolly jumper. Warm air is trapped between layers, and layers can easily be added or removed for comfort. Cotton-type trousers dry faster than jeans and are warmer and more comfortable when wet.
Speak to Sam or your leaders if you have questions as you may be able to borrow equipment if we have enough notice.
